Rejection isn't real

-Rejection isn’t real. I hear something all the time “I had to learn to deal with 100 rejections before I heard 1 yes.” The intentions are right with this message but I’d encourage any actor or creative worker to reframe the mindset completely here. Let’s take a sports mindset approach here. You want to learn how to do a kick serve in tennis. So you go out, toss the ball and… your serve is flat. That wasn’t a loss, a failure, a miss, or a rejection of your talent. It’s just part of practice. Just a serve. A single shot you took. When we stop making everything either a “win” or a “loss”, a “yes” or a “no” and just let things be, we open our minds to take more risks. To learn more lessons and to take more shots.
-You need to know what would make your dreams come true… then be wary of people selling it to you. “I can guarantee you’ll be booking big gigs by the end of these lessons!” vs “I can guarantee I’ll give you honest feedback regarding XYZ from someone long spent in the industry.”
